Four crews, one zip code, and a license you can look up.
Brightwell Electric has worked out of Ferndale since 2016. We do residential electrical work in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Berkley, Oak Park, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge and the surrounding communities and we do not travel further than that, because being twenty minutes away is most of what makes us useful.
- 2016Working in Ferndale and the neighboring communities since
- 4Crews, each of them a licensed electrician and an apprentice
- 7 miThe radius we work in. Past that we will give you a name instead of a quote
- 24 hThe line is answered around the clock by somebody who works here
Three things we do that are not standard, and one we refuse.
None of this is remarkable. It is only worth writing down because enough of the trade does the opposite that it has become a differentiator, which is a slightly depressing thing to be able to say.
- We do
Label the panel properly
Every circuit, in pen, in the actual language a homeowner uses. Not “LTS 2”. Back bedroom, dishwasher, the outlet behind the television. It costs us forty minutes and it saves you every year you live here.
- We do
Tell you when it is a ten dollar part
If what is wrong is a receptacle you could replace yourself, you get told that, along with which one and how to be sure the power is off. We would rather lose the repair and get the panel job.
- We do
Give you the permit number
In writing, at the end, along with the inspection record. You should be able to look up your own house in the state’s database and find our work sitting there with a date on it.
- We will not
Quote it cheaper without the permit
People ask. It is a reasonable question and the answer is still no. There is no line item to remove, because there is no version of the job where an inspector does not look at it.
What is worth calling at two in the morning, and what is not.
The number is answered at any hour by somebody who works here, not a call center that takes a message. Which means it is worth being clear about what we can actually help with in the dark.
If you are not sure, call. Working out which of these you have is the part we are for.
Call now, do not wait for morning
You can smell something hot near a panel, an outlet or a switch. Burning plastic has one smell and everyone recognizes it.
A panel or a device is warm to the touch, or there are marks around an outlet.
Half the house has power and half does not, with no breaker tripped. That pattern can mean a lost neutral, and a lost neutral damages everything plugged in until it is fixed.
Water has reached a panel or a fixture from a burst pipe, a failed water heater or a roof leak.
The mast is loose or the drop is down after a storm. Call the utility first, then us, both from inside the house.
Do not take our word for any of this.
Everything above is a claim on our own website, which is worth exactly what every claim on every contractor’s own website is worth. The license number below is different, because we do not control the database it sits in.
Look it up. Then ask the other two quotes for theirs.

Licensing runs under the Electrical Administrative Act, Act 217 of 1956, MCL 338.881 to 338.892 — which is why an electrical license is a state credential and not something a city issues on its own terms. Read the act →
