Side. The wing is 23 inches tall and the nose cone adds 18 inches to the car.
Dodge Charger Daytona
Built so Dodge could win at Daytona, and homologated by selling just enough of them to the public.
Every figure we hold on this car.
The nose cone and the rear wing are not decoration and they were not an option package. NASCAR required a manufacturer to sell a version of the car to the public before it could race it, so Dodge built a run of winged road cars in 1969 for exactly that reason. It was the first stock car to run 200 mph.
It is the rarest and most valuable thing in this building by a long way, and it is the only car we will not rent to a first-time customer. That is not exclusivity — it is that the wing makes the rear of the car behave differently at speed and the nose changes how it turns in.
What it's like to drive
Extraordinarily stable at speed and slightly odd below it. The nose cone is long enough that you place the car differently, and you will misjudge curbs for the first ten minutes. Then it becomes the best thing you have ever driven.
The one thing that will surprise you
The wing is 23 inches tall so it will not go through a standard garage door opening backwards, and it is the reason the rear visibility is what it is. Take a friend for parking.
Take it somewhere worth going.
We keep five routes written up, with the distances, the surfaces and where to stop. The Woodward run is the obvious one. The lake road is the better one.
