Rounded Flower Bed (Corbeille de fleurs)
Rounded Flower Bed (Corbeille de fleurs)
Claude Monet, 1840–1926
A bed of gladioli takes the whole middle of the picture and burns there, while a figure with a parasol barely survives the flowers' competition for attention. It was painted the summer of the second Impressionist exhibition, when the word 'impressionist' was still an insult the painters were deciding to keep.
