Both, ideally on the first message. We would far rather give you an honest range in twenty minutes than design something you were never going to build. Every inquiry gets a real answer, including the ones we turn down.
What happens after you send this
One of us reads it — there is no intake team. If it looks like a project we are right for, you get a call within a business day and a range on that call. If it is not, you get an email saying why, and usually the name of somebody better suited.
Say this if you can
The year the house was built, whether you have plans or drawings already, what you have been told by anyone else, and the number above which you would simply not do it. That last one is the useful one, and nobody ever volunteers it.
If it is urgent
A form is the wrong tool for water coming through a ceiling. Call (248) 555-0139 — and if it is an active leak or structural damage, call a restoration contractor first. We are not that, and we will tell you so rather than take the job.
Three things to ask every builder you meet.
1. What is your Michigan builder license number, and may I look it up?
2. Can I see a schedule of values rather than a single price?
3. How do you handle a change order, and does work stop until I sign it?
